Mike Diamond Shares His Secrets on Boosting Mental Agility And Maximizing Performance

The brain is like a muscle

The brain is the most complex organ in the human body and some might go as far as saying it’s the most complex structure in the entire universe, with billions of neurons linked together through billions of connections. It’s such a complicated and intricate system that scientists have yet to understand many of the functions and processes that happen in the brain.

One of the most fascinating things about the brain is that it can be your most powerful ally and your worst enemy, and there’s no one who knows that better than Mike Diamond, author, television personality, professional athlete, entrepreneur and life coach, whose inspiring success story is one for the ages.

Mike has experienced first-hand how the brain is able to heal, help one achieve mental clarity, and become the best version of themselves, after a lifetime of struggling with trauma, addiction, and abuse. Now, he wants to share the things he’s learned along the way with the rest of the world and teach others how to enhance their focus, mental agility, and performance.

Who is Mike Diamond?

Today, Mike Diamond embodies the very image of success: he’s an accomplished author, athlete, entrepreneur, and father and has achieved things that most people can only dream of.  Apart from setting up a thriving business and being an acclaimed motivational speaker and life coach, he’s also a Guinness Book Record holder for running 30 half marathons in 30 days.

Mike has helped countless people overcome addiction and get their lives together, and his book 7 Steps to an Unbreakable Mindset enjoys immense success all across the world. That’s quite impressive for someone who had to overcome so many challenges over the years, because Mike’s life trajectory was anything but easy, as you’ll come to find out here.

A rough start in life

Born in Perth, Western Australia, Mike didn’t have a normal happy childhood like all children deserve. His struggles started at an early age, due to an unhealthy family environment, with an abusive father and mother who took out all his anger and frustrations on him.

He had no one to turn to for guidance and support as he was fighting an unknown enemy – undiagnosed dyslexia. That took a toll on his academic performance and despite excelling in sports, he was never praised for his achievements, nor helped to overcome his learning difficulties.

The physical and emotional abuse that he was subjected to repeatedly throughout his childhood pushed him on a dark path of substance abuse. At age 12, despite being the athletic type, he was already experimenting with drugs and alcohol. Eventually, at age 16, he was expelled from Aquinas College but still managed to finish his education at Melville H.S. He then moved to Sydney and, by pure chance, he won a green card in 1997 and moved to the United States.

His US experience was filled with both ups and downs. He managed to build a successful career, landing roles in different movie and television projects, performing as a stand-up comedian, and becoming involved in the tattoo business. But despite his accomplishments, there was a hidden battle going on inside him, as he was struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and living an unhealthy lifestyle.

The path to healing and sobriety

It wasn’t easy for Mike to turn his life around, but he was determined to go to great lengths to overcome his addictions and get sober. So, he decided the best way to do that is by surrounding himself with the right people – he started going to AA meetings and got advice from people who were already walking the sobriety path. Their support and guidance encouraged Mike to emulate their success and kept him on the right track. He also started reading a lot and devoured self-help books which helped him broaden his horizons and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to pave a new path for himself.

But what Mike realized as he was getting sober is that the mind is the most powerful tool one has, and the only way to better yourself and overcome any challenges you may face is by practicing mindfulness and becoming mentally strong. It became clear to Mike that long-lasting change has to come from within. If you are able to train your brain for mental toughness, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals, no matter how bold they are.

Mike demonstrated that when he signed up to run 30 half-marathons in 30 days to raise funds and awareness for Lyla, a little girl suffering from a rare autoimmune disease. What’s even more impressive is that he did all that while recovering from a near-death experience and pushing his son Orlando in a stroller. He showed the world that anything is achievable if you have enough will and determination.

Mike is a firm believer that when one develops the right mindset, past failures and struggles cease to be important, and the only thing that matters is the present moment. In fact, traumatic experiences can be used to fuel growth and positive change, and we all have that kind of strength within us.
